Meditation Pod

The Meditation Pod is a currently ongoing project that I am doing in collaboration with a colleague currently studying Digital Futures at OCAD University. I was approached by him to be in charge of the physical design of the product and manufacturing strategy, as well as the overall user experience and user interface elements.

Project Brief

The idea behind the Meditation Pod was to create a design that could be used as a guided meditation space in corporate or public settings, such as offices and airports. Our team conducted market analysis and found that the market for those types of devices is both sparse and overpriced, so we aimed to build a product that was elegant, made locally in Toronto, and that could be significantly cheaper than what's currently available.

The project unfortunately coincided with the coronavirus pandemic, so most of the ideation work was done digitally in CAD software, as the resources available during lockdown were limited.

Audiovisual Content

There is a 32-inch screen inside the pod that, together with colour-changing lights and high-fidelity headphones, provides an immersive guided meditation experience for the user.

Content is being created by audiovisual artists with guidance from meditation professionals.

Form Exploration

Ergonomics

The Meditation Pod was designed with deep considerations to ergonomics. The seat angles were made following standard ergonomic guidelines used across many industries.

Our team consulted with meditation specialists to find the best seating position for relaxation and mindfulness.
